Quick Piecing Quarter Square TrianglesThe quick piecing quarter square triangles are ¼ of a square. Follow the directions as you would for a half square triangle. Cut a square of fabric 3 ½” from a light fabric and a dark fabric or any two of your chosen fabrics. Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of the lighter fabric. Place the squares rights sides together and sew ¼” on both sides of the drawn line. Cut along this line.
Press the seam allowance toward the darker fabric.
For a quarter square triangle, draw diagonal lines from corner to corner (making an X) on the wrong side of the lighter fabric. Place the squares right sides together and sew ¼” on both sides of one of the lines. Cut along both of the drawn lines. Press the seam allowance toward the darker fabric. This yields 2 half squares or a triangle.
Stitch two triangles right sides together with the dark fabric opposite the light fabric.
This block is composed of three triangles. The larger triangle is a half square triangle. The two smaller triangles are two units from a quarter square triangle block. Stitch the large triangle to the two smaller triangles, right sides together.
In this block or unit, the smaller triangles are each units from a quarter square triangle.
