The Roman Square Quilt Block
The roman square quilt block is one of the easiest to make when you use your rotary cutter and strip piecing. You will have this one put together in no time.
The roman square quilt block uses a nine patch grid.
To complete one block for a sampler quilt:
Block size: 9 inches
Materials:
Fat quarter fabric in three colors
(dark green, light green and white)
Backing
Batting
Step 1 - Use the
rotary cutting techniques.
Cut 1 strip 1 ½” from the dark green fabric.
Cut 1 strip 1 ½” from the light green fabric.
Cut 1 strip 1 ½” from the white fabric.
Step 2 - Sew the dark green strip to the light green strip.
Step 3 - Sew the white strip to the light green side of the long strip unit.
Step 4 - Press the seam allowances toward the darker colors.
Step 5 - Sub cut the long strip into 3 ½” squares.
Step 6 - Sew row one - one striped unit, one striped unit, one striped unit.
Be sure to check the picture for the correct unit placement.
Step 7 - Sew row two - one striped unit, one striped unit, one striped unit.
Again, watch for the correct unit placement.
Step 8 - Sew row three - one striped unit, one striped unit, one striped unit.
Watch for the correct unit placement.
Step 9 - Sew all of the rows together to complete the quilt block.
